Curated by #EverardFindlay, #FisherHalfpipe explores the idea of the commons, and the way that certain sports, such as skateboarding, transcend barriers of race, class, and culture to draw disparate groups into community. An individual sport, in which the skater must contend with the laws of physics and physicality, skating is a true meritocracy; a level playing field, on which raw ability is readily apparent.

The #FisherHalfpipe will be a monolithic mass bisecting the main arcade of the #FisherBuilding Lobby. Patrons will walk through gateways beneath and will be able to view skaters above with the magnificent Fisher as a backdrop, curves of the structure and the arcs of skaters cutting through space mirroring the Fisher’s vaulted, frescoed and inlaid walls and ceilings.

The #FisherBuilding holds a unique place in the #Detroit story, emblematic of the dramatic highs and lows #Detroit has experienced in the past century, built upon the velocity and momentum afforded by the motor vehicle. Through these fluctuations, beauty and humanity has survived and thrived. #FisherHalfpipe continues this story, with another kind of vehicle, another kind of momentum, another kind of high and low - the Skateboard and the Rider - triumphantly activating the phenomenal space through motion once again.

Come one, come all. Lets do this!

We are immersed in a project with the Fisher Building, where we intend to help shine a light on skateboarding as a cross-cultural platform. This project will culminate into an event in March that takes place inside the historic lobby of the FISHER.

HERE’S WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP !!
Leading up to the event, we will be releasing a short film that showcases this beautiful building that is known as “America's largest art object”. In the final shot of the short film/event video, we want to make a statement about all of the different walks of life that are brought together through the shared passion of skating. Invite all your friends who shred and come take a walk through the lobby of the building, boards in hand, and help us make this final shot a powerful representation of the Detroit scene as well as the power of skateboarding to unite us all.
